About the boxset
Anthems for Doomed Youth is the third studio album from tumultuous indie-rock poets The Libertines. After the announcement of frontman Pete Doherty’s sobriety in 2015, the boys recorded the album in Thailand’s aptly named Karma Sound Studios, down the road from the centre Doherty completed his rehab run.
If their first two albums were full of stories of drugs, hedonism, and the grit and grime of London, then is an ode to the mental scars left by those 18 years of Libertinism. It’s an absorbing listen from start to finish, embellished with the beguiling poetry of Doherty and Barat confronting their demons. Named after a Wilfred Owen poem dedicated to the fallen soldiers of World War One, this is their homage to those who, like them, have made it through to the other side.
