About This Box
The definition of alternative can encompass so many things: hard rock thrashers like Badflower and their OK I’M SICK album; 20/20 Vision, a collection of political anthems by legendary punk rockers Anti-Flag, the bubbly indie pop of Sunflower Bean’s Twentytwo in Blue. Even Young Jesus’ post-rock epic Welcome To Conceptual Beach.
The one thing that unites these daring, brilliant records is personal expression. You can almost feel that this music that had to be made by its creators.

Grey Daze
Amends

Amends
Grey Daze

A great modern rock record fronted by one of the best vocalists in the game
Before there was Linkin Park, there was Grey Daze. Helmed by the same frontman, the late Chester Bennington, the former’s gigantic 2000 debut ‘Hybrid Theory’ remains one of the best-selling albums of all time and sparked a rock revolution. But it came at a price for former band, Grey Daze.
‘Amends’ echoes the raw angst that made Chester a superstar with those early Linkin Park albums but also leans into his desire to speak to as many people as possible. Adding to his legacy but dealing in more than cheap nostalgia, ‘Amends’ is a powerful record that offers comfort, motivation and a sense of belonging.

Sunflower Bean
Twentytwo in Blue

Twentytwo in Blue
Sunflower Bean
The Brooklyn band’s second album offers a reverent spin on the alt and indie-rock canon.
Sunflower Bean are a proper charm offensive: They're young, but come off as experienced beyond their years. They're stylish, but not styled. They're clearly a rock band, but they're also kinda chill and never sound like they're here to do either to an extreme.

Gaslight anthem

The Gaslight Anthem are enamored with Springsteen, Social Distortion, and the Clash, and their wholehearted embrace of familiar rock'n'roll tropes winds up being a huge part of their charm.
“It had all the markings of a classic. Every song was great. It was fresh and rich and newly discovered. A lot of spirit, a lot of soul. Those things have a tendency to last.” When Bruce Springsteen has that to say about your record, you know you’ve made something special. And with their second album, The ’59 Sound, The Gaslight Anthem made something very special indeed.

Badflower
OK, Im Sick

OK, Im Sick
Badflower
Seriously, this album is an absolute masterpiece
Badflower clearly aren't censoring themselves for radio play or watering down their message, and it's a refreshing turn from how homogeneous and dreary so much modern hard rock can be, especially when they take a more personal pivot and highlight how important the nonchalance of the title is, bringing attention to the

Anti-Flag continue to fight against uncertain times on 12th album, 20/20 Vision…
Anti-Flag is not just a punk rock band, but an organizing vehicle and the liner notes carry on the long tradition of punk bands highlighting social justice literature.
Articles from Jeremy Scahill and Robert Reich, book recommendations with topics ranging from feminism to socialism to prison abolition, ruminations from Sane, and links to get involved in organizing spaces. It's great to see the band take the time to do this.
